Description
During the late 1890s American art critics began to use the term tonal to describe these works. Two of the leading painters associated with this style are George Inness and James McNeill Whistler. Tonalism is also sometimes used to describe American landscapes derived from the French Barbizon style, which employs an emphasis on mood and shadow. This is a very loose palette knife rendition of a rocky waterway in Woodland, Washington. Hear the splash!

Steven.. Tks for comments on my work which for some reason do not also show up on my dashboard. Your comment came thru my email, otherwise I would not have seen it. I guess this proves that my dashboard is "dead" and has been for several years. Your email notice gave me the proof that my comments are not being captured. The last time my painting "Central Oregon" was commented on was on JUly 15, 2015. Time is flying by as I am! Jim
