Artist's Description

Painted directly from a reference digital while visiting the Grand Tetons near jackson Hole, Wy. A 12 x 16 Oil on board. This view was one that a painter like Richard Schmid could complete with just a few strokes of his brush and make it extremely convincing. It proved a good exercise for me. I started this painting off the main road below the scene. It was windy and that was an understatement.I felt what the painting lacked in being realistically convincing could still a painting full of color.

Born in Philadelphia in the late thirties, Jim Gola grew up heavily influenced by art and the cultural atmosphere contained in this bustling city. The city of brotherly love is still a thriving east coast art market that comprises some of the oldest art schools and galleries in America. Jim admits to spending numerous hours at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art and the Philadelphia Museum of Art as a youngster. Admiring much of the work of Americas past masters such as Inness, Moran, Chase, Homer and Bierstadt, among others. He then started to generate his lifelong love of oil painting.
